FocusThis has remained one of our largest programs since 2006. We have focused our resources on advocacy around the Sexual Offences Act, Adolescent Reproductive Health, Sexual Violence, and maternal health and mortality. Implementation of the Sexual Offences Act, 2006For the last three years WiLDAF Kenya has been working on the full implementation of the Sexual Offences Act. It has established a healthy working relationship wit the relevant implementation agencies such as the Judiciary, the Kenya Police and the State Law Office. To ensure dissemination of the contents of the SOA, trainings and workshops were carried out in 23 districts across the country which saw the participation of Police Officers, Reproductive Health workers and Community Leaders. Contributions from these participants informed the development of the Survivors of Sexual Violence Management Toolkit. Law Enforcers’ Training Manual on the Sexual Offences Act, 2006.WiLDAF Kenya, in joint collaboration with the Kenya Police and in particular the Director of Community Policing, Gender and Children Issues has developed a training manual for Law Enforcement Officers on the Sexual Offences Act, 2006. Upon completion and launch of the manual by the Commissioner of Police, it is hoped that it shall then be entrenched into the training syllabi of the police force countrywide. The Prosecutor’s Reference Manual on the Sexual Offences Act, 2006WiLDAF Kenya did in a joint collaboration with the Office of the Attorney General and in particular the Department of Public Prosecutions successfully develop a Prosecutors Training Manual on the Sexual Offences Act 2006 in partnership with the Department of Public Prosecutions. This Reference Manual is a training tool and reference material for those prosecuting sexual offences. Young Women Sexuality and Adolescent Reproductive Health.WiLDAF Kenya has conducted and continues to conduct research and a needs assessment around the sexual and reproductive health needs of young women and adolescents in Kenya. Sensitization of this group on the topic of reproductive health and care has also been undertaken in various parts of Kenya and in some of the public universities as well. In doing this, we seek to improve the sexual and reproductive health of young women and girls by influencing policy and legislation around the same. |
